Monopoly Pub Crawl 2011

Postby Leeds And Proud » Mon Sep 27, 2010 12:50 pm

This is the official thread for the event of next year...The Cambos.com Monopoly Pub Crawl (What Could Possibly Go Wrong?) 2011.

The date will probably be in late February or March and so far the weekends of the 5/6 and 12/13 are out. If there are any pets' birthdays you want to avoid please put them on here.

Another factor is going to be the good old London Underground. The majority of places are very central but we could have trouble getting to Old Kent Road and some other outposts if there is no Tube running. Then again, why don't we hire out a fleet of Boris' bikes!

Over the next few months I will post the proposed route and, where possible, a selection of watering holes and places reknowned for fine dining (You mean a list of McDonalds? - Ed) so we know what sort of weapons and hats to bring along.

Shall we do fancy dress? I was going to suggest football shirts but we'll probably end up going on the day Millwall play Cardiff so maybe it's not such a good idea.

If you have any questions or concerns please post them on here.

Leeds And Proud wrote:It won't take place this year as it's far too cold so we're looking at March. SW Coach will let me know the dates he can make and we'll see if they fit in with everyone else.

There will be food stops - maybe we could get non-participants to hand us food bags like they do in the London Marathon.

pxyzyzygy wrote:I'd do that, but only if it were in warmer weather than we can expect over the next few months. I know, one tends to develop a beer coat after a few, but still.

Also, if it's 26 venues, 26 drinks, can we make it a day long event, starting with a combination of breakfast and beer? And in fact can we make a couple of food related pitstops?

There are 22 locations, plus 4 stations (see below). We could eat at the stations, and have 1/2 a pint at each other location, but that's 11 pints... can we cope with that without falling over bins? Or, should we rule out the stations for time saving reasons?

Okay, the 22 venues are...

Old Kent Road
Whitechapel Road

Angel Islington
Euston Road
Pentonville Road

Pall Mall
Whitehall
Northumberland Avenue

Bow Street
Marlborough Street
Vine Street

Strand
Fleet Street
Trafalgar Square

Leicester Square
Coventry Street
Piccadilly

Regents Street
Oxford Street
Bond Street

Park Lane
Mayfair

Once we have a date and know how many people are 'in', maybe we could split the venues so we all have to find suitable pubs in our own section of the board/London??

Oh, and the 4 stations, should we take up that challenge too, are: Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Marylebone & Fenchurch Street.

I'm up for it! Yes, split the board up, perhaps based on where we do and have worked? i like the idea of the stations for food as you can get snacks avoiding any unpleasant overeating.

Ar least we know which venue we'll be in on Oxford St; there is, apparently, only one pub on all its length:- http://www.pubs.com/main_site/pub_detai ... pub_id=234

I believe the word you're looking for is 'merkin'.

Due to an injury sustained while holding some string at the weekend, L&P is unable to attend today's committee meeting, and so it has been postponed until next Monday.

Couldn't Mrs L&P have told him how long it is?

No, her glasses are broken and her sight isn't what it was.

Very disappointed that other potential members are precluded from these committee meetings, don't you think we drink latte? (What? It's coffee without whiskey in it, what a ridiculous concept!)

Other members are more than welcome to join The Committee at these coffee gatherings, if only to witness Mr C sucking the cream from his frappucino through a straw.

Please join us Cossie (and anyone else).

I won't reveal the exact location of the meeting as gathering announced on the internet have been known to cause carnage.

Suffice to say that it's held at a St*rbucks near St. Pauls, where there's loads of 'em.

In light of SW Coach's news may I propose Saturday 26th March as the date for this event?
